Style Like A Mother: The Paper Bag Trouser & Classy Sweatshirt Edit

Style Like A Mother

Autumn is approaching and I have been looking at ways to warm up my outfits without getting my full winter wardrobe out. Even though the weather has taken a turn. I am not ready to completely transition yet. I am wanting some autumnal colours and simple designs to keep me warm from a chill but without a big jacket or coat. So I went on the hunt for some new items and I found two that I am loving at the moment and that would be perfect for my new Modern Mum Fashion Segment : Style Like A Mother. Because Pleeeease, just because we are mums and are usually looking to simplify our lives. It doesn’t mean we need to migrate to FrumpvilleCheck out this months edit

The Paper Bag Trousers

#HotLikeAMum

No, this are not some crazy fashion trend inspired by the homeless ie. Zoolander Derelicte! These are what I like to call the “feels like pyjamas but totally are not” trousers. I have been eyeing these trousers for ages and wasn’t convinced it would suit me. I was sure that with my mum bod i would end up looking more like a potato than anything else.

But after reading a few blogs and seeing some amazing products. I thought I would take the leap. And guess what? I love them! They are so comfortable and yet effortlessly stylish. I bought these burgundy ones from H&M. I paired it with a cream polo neck, small matching burgundy cross over bag ( also H&M) and some heels. Though I think you could also wear them with plain white trainers.

The “Classy” Sweatshirt

It was really funny. I wore this sweatshirt a few times and all of my mum friends commented on it. What is it with oversized shirts that seem to attract us mums? I am an avid lover of sweatshirts and oversized jumpers. They are easy, comfortable and baggy enough to make me look slimmer than I am. I could literally live in my husbands Nike sweatshirt all day everyday. But I don’t think it appropriate for all occasions especially when I need to pop into town or pick Gabriel up from nursery. Though I must admit I have worn far worse on the Nursery pick up before.

I bought this mid sleeved sweatshirt from Missguided. It is affordable, easy to wear and has a soft furry cuff on the sleeve which is nice to touch.

I just bang it on with my black jeans from Massimo Dutti and my new ankle boots from Steve Madden. And a dark red lipstick!

Style Like A Mother: Pale Pinks, White Jeans & A Denim Jacket

I have been all over the place lately, I just can’t seem to get anything done. Recently I found out that I had less than a month to hand in my draft copy of a 12 page assignment. When I had stupidly believed that I had more time since the deadline is actually in July! So it has been a mad panic. Usually I have a strict schedule to be able to keep up with studying, blogging, housework, motherhood and social events ( wow that was a mouthful). However as soon as something goes off schedule it is chaos and one area of my life starts to lack attention. Not to mention my outfits of the day! Check out this weeks Style Like A Mother.

So every moment I have had I have been trying to get ahead on my assignment. Which has been tough since it has finally started to feel like summer is approaching. Staying indoors and trying to write a 12 page essay when all you want to do is bask in the sunshine while sipping and Pimms and lemonade is a kill joy. However with my schedule being manic, not to mention Gabriel breaking his collarbone ( more on that later). I still managed to enjoy a bit of sunshine and whip out some summery colours to brighten my mood.

Pale Pinks and White

I am so obsessed with pales pinks and white at the moment that I need to be careful not to blow our clothing budget and transform my wardrobe into something a sugar plum fairy would have. But the pastel themes have got me very inspired and i am craving hot weather, beaches and a new summer wardrobe. However since we live in Aberdeen and hot weather equals 10°C. I have been content with a casual look of white jeans and pastel tees and my oversized denim jacket. All courtesy of New Look.

Hopefully the weather will continue to improve and I can get back on schedule so that I can start updating my closet and get out some summer dresses.

Wishing you all a good week. Wish me luck for my assignment. I am going to need it.

3 Spring Trends For Everyday Outfits

It is officially spring and although it does not feel like it at the moment.  I am looking forward to getting some sunshine and stepping away from my winter wardrobe. I always get excited to see what the new trends are for the year. However sometimes it can feel like what is on the runway is often not practical for everyday use. So after reading some spring trend reports and looking around at my favourite designers and brands. I thought I would share with you my favourite Spring Trends For Everyday Outfits.

Lilacs & Lavenders

The colour lavender was present all over the runways this Fashion month and I love it. It is a great transitional colour to wear as you move from Winter to Summer. And it adds that pop of colour we are all craving after a long winter.

3 Spring Trends For Everyday Outfits

Incorporate it into your wardrobe with nice thin jumpers and lacey tops. If you are feeling bolder then go for a statement jacket like the ones below.

Sheer Transparency

The Sheer Transparent theme was another popular look this fashion month. Though not for everyone I would say this is probably my favourite look out of the 3. I love all things mesh and feel it can really vamp up an outfit.

3 Spring Trends For Everyday Outfits

Go for tops with mesh details such as sheer sleeves or cutouts. If you are brave you can try the total look with a transparent blouse or skirt. Don’t forget to wear a nice bralet or under pants!

Textured Details

Though I have never been a fan of the cowboy fringe phase that was popular a few years back. These subtle fringe and feathered details have me hooked. It is more chic than cowboy, with a lot of soft tassels.

3 Spring Trends For Everyday Outfits

Opt for an easy everyday top with soft tassel details or accessorise with tasseled earrings which are all the craze at the moment. If you are a real fashionista than go for a statement bag or jacket. I am in love with the pink cross body bag below.

My Loungewear Favourites

Ever since becoming a mum loungewear has become a personal ‘must have’ wardrobe essential for me. As I am home a lot with my little one, it is practical for me to have an array of comfortable yet some what presentable clothing that I can easily wear around the house and outside if I need to nip out for anything.  There is nothing more satisfying than slipping into your comfies as soon as you come home. It feels like an instant stress reliever and I love feeling cozy and warm in my home. But just because it is nice to be comfortable doesn’t mean you need to look like you just got out of bed. I may be home a lot but i still want to look and feel pretty, even if it is just my son and a few other mums who see me. So after surviving the beast from the east and living in my loungewear for the last week. I thought I would share with you My Loungewear Favourites.

JOGGERS & YOGA PANTS

My Loungewear Favourites

My Loungewear Favourites

I totally love Jack Wills Joggers. I had never heard of Jack Wills before I came to the UK. They were not that prevalent in France nor in Australia, but I am glad I found them. I previously used to buy cheaper alternatives that were your basic joggers. However I found that they often made me look heavier than I was and i felt self conscious going out in them. These Jack Wills Joggers are really comfy and have a nice fit to them with the added bonus of being quite stylish. They are great for wearing around the house and good enough to be worn outside if needed.

I previously owned two other pairs of Jack Wills Joggers but I wore them so much they got holes in them.

SWEATSHIRTS

My Loungewear Favourites I love love love this sweatshirt. I have had my eye on the Selfish Mother range for ages but never actually bought one until recently. Though it is simple, these shirts have become iconic in the parenting world. I had a hard time choosing which one I wanted as they come in different colours with different words and slogans. My favourites were ‘Mother’, ‘Winging It’ and ‘MAMA’ but eventually decided that MAMA was the best one for me.

NOTE: I am giving away one of these amazing sweatshirts to one of my readers to celebrate mothers day. All you need to do is the following.

The Mum Bod Saviour : Bodysuits

The Mum Bod. Oh I had been warned about how my body would change after having kids. “Your body changes its shape completely” I would hear. ” Even if you lose all the weight you will never be the same”. I took all of these warnings with a pinch of salt, I was going to lose the weight and I was going to be skinnier and fitter than ever after having my baby. Little did I know what was ahead of me.

Two years on and I still find that I am too scared to look at myself in the mirror. My previous love of tight body con dresses has had to be put on standby. How am I ever going to look somewhat attractive with these extra wobbly bits protruding from places I didn’t even know they could protrude from?

One word my lovely ladies……….

BODYSUITS

Don’t be fooled by their hip hugging appearance. Bodysuits for me (and for a lot of other mums I know) are my mum bod saviour! Though they appear to be tight and revealing they are actually extremely complimentary to your figure. They give you the “V” Shape, essentially making your hips and stomach appear smaller. Think Baywatch, though the women were beautiful in their own right. It was later revealed that it was the swimsuits V shape design that gave them the much wanted hourglass look. I feel it secures my softer bits in place, making me look smoother and thinner in the process. It is like a comfortable everyday version of spanx.

SHOP THE BASICS

I now have a huge range of bodysuits in my wardrobe. Ranging from basic t-shirts, vests and singlets to the more fashionable looks such as cold shoulders, meshed etc. You can find bodysuits just about anywhere ranging from 5£ (Boohoo) to up in the £1000’s (Balmain). I personally love House of CBwho make some of the best basic bodysuits as well as some very fashionable statement ones.

Even though they may be wobbly in places, these bodies brought our prefect little humans in to the world. And for that they are amazing, no matter what shape!

Don’t Panic: Wedding season is here! Look Good with my Fashionable Wedding Guest Outfit Ideas

April is here and that means Wedding Season has started! If you are like me, then chances are you have a few weddings to attend this year, and you are excited and panicked at the same time. Excited that you get to attend such a special event, panicked because you have no idea what you are going to wear!

Weddings tend to be the time when you meet up with friends and relatives you have not seen in a long time. And I mean a LONNNG time. Some of these people last saw me when I was slim, radiant and had perfect hair. Now I am rolly polly, tired and not so put together. Do you see the dilemma ?

Nobody wants to be that person who everybody looks at and thinks ‘ Oh she let herself go’. Everybody wants to be beautiful and a wedding is one of those times where you can be guaranteed that everybody is looking at everybody to see how they look and what they are wearing. You want to show that you have not let yourself go. That you still have your mojo despite the fact that you are aging by the minute and are not as perky as you once were.

So the hunt for the perfect dress begins! You want to look classy but with sex appeal. You want something that hides all the lumps and bumps, but doesn’t hang off you like a potato sack. Something that compliments your figure without you looking like you are trying to be something you are not. Sigh. Its hard.

So I put together a few wedding guest outfits that I love and can compliment all different body types. Check them out below, you can also check out ASOS Wedding guest selection here for more ideas.
